NEW DELHI: In A major statement today, Pralhad Joshi, the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, reaffirmed the government's willingness to engage in discussions about the Manipur issue.
Addressing reporters in New Delhi on Wednesday, Joshi emphasized that the Home Minister, Amit Shah, who had visited Manipur, is prepared to provide a response in Parliament. He expressed confusion over the Opposition's reluctance to engage in this matter.
Adding to the sentiment, the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting accused the Opposition of politicizing the Manipur issue and avoiding discussions in Parliament. The Minister pointed out the disparity between the Opposition's willingness to visit Manipur compared to their avoidance of certain regions like West Bengal and Rajasthan, insinuating that they are merely playing politics.
Last week, a delegation of Opposition MPs, led by the Congress party, met with Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan in Imphal. They submitted a memorandum urging for the restoration of peace in the strife-torn Northeastern state. The region has been facing a crisis since May 3, resulting in numerous casualties and displacing thousands of people, who are now seeking refuge in relief camps.
The government stands ready for meaningful discussions on the Manipur issue, while the Opposition's accusations against Chief Minister N. Biren Singh add to the complexities of the situation. The situation calls for careful deliberation and actions to bring about peace and stability in the region.
