'Green Fund Tax' will be charged from students: K Chandrashekhar Rao

Hyderabad: Under 'Green Fund Tax', Rs 500 per month will be deducted from MPs, MLAs and MLCs while Rs 100 will be deducted from the salary of IAS, IPS and IFS officers. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao announced this while replying to the discussion on Harita Haram in the Assembly on Friday. Students are also not exempted from green tax. A lump sum amount ranging from Rs 5 to Rs 100 will be collected from students from school to professional colleges and this money will be used for Harita Haram programme.

Telangana government is all set to levy 'Green Fund Tax' on all sections including legislators, bureaucrats, government officials, students and citizens using government services. TNGO and Jio will pay Rs.25 per month. Apart from government employees, the government proposes to collect Rs 1,000 per year from shops coming for renewal of licences. Similarly, Rs 50 will be charged from those going for registration.

With this, the government will get an annual revenue of Rs 20 crore to Rs 30 crore. According to the Chief Minister, this fund will be used for the development of greenery. The Chief Minister said that the State Government has spent Rs 6,555 crore on Harit Haram, which has led to an increase of 3.67 per cent in the green cover in the State. The Chief Ministecongratulated the Sarpanches for their efforts to save the trees in their villages. He said that 188 reserve forest blocks have been created around Hyderabad. Avenue tree plantation was done in 82,491 kms on all types of roads including Panchayat Raj, R&B and National Highways.
