In Gujarat's Morbi region, On Thursday, Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall in Gujarat's coastal regions. More than 300 electrical poles were damaged as a result of torrential rains and strong winds that gusted between 115 and 120 km per hour. 

While power has already been restored to the other villages, Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) officials are working to restore power in 9 villages.

Strong winds toppled electric wires and poles, leading to a power loss in 45 villages of the Maliya tehsil, according to PGVCL's executive engineer Morbi JC Goswami. In 9 villages, we are restoring power, and it has already been restored in the other villages.

Cyclone Biparjoy forced the closure of two power plants in Morbi's Maliya Taluka, and it also caused damage to over 300 electricity poles in the coastal areas.

Gusty winds and heavy rains disrupted the power supply to almost 940 settlements. In addition, the devastation caused by the cyclone resulted in the deaths of about 23 animals, and 524 trees were uprooted.

Several relief and rescue teams are reportedly on notice, and more than 100,000 people have reportedly been evacuated from Gujarat's coastal areas.

IMD forecasts that Cyclone Biparjoy will continue to lose strength by Friday morning and transition into a "depression" that evening.

The cyclone, which is centred over the Saurashtra-Kutch region, would likely travel northeast, bringing heavy rainfall to Rajasthan, according to IMD.

Around 99 trains that were either through or coming from the Gujarati cities hit by Cyclone Biparjoy have been cancelled or short-terminated, according to Western Railways.

To gather the latest information regarding the cyclone, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel presided over a meeting of the State Emergency Operation Centre on Thursday. Through a phone call, he also informed PM Modi of the status of affairs.
