Former Indian cricket team captain and veteran player Anil Kumble is celebrating his 51 birthday today. Famous with the name of Jumbo, Kumble was born on 17th October 1970 in Bengaluru. Very few people know that Kumble's hometown Bengaluru also has a square in his name. The name of this intersection is Anil Kumble Circle.

In the year 2016, Kumble himself took the curtain off why he was called jumbo. Anil Kumble said in a tweet that, "Navjot Singh Sidhu has named him Jumbo. At that time, I was playing for the Irani Trophy at Kotla in Delhi for rest of India and Sidhu was fielding at mid-on, some of my balls were bouncing, after which Sidhu said 'jumbo jet', but jumbo remained. Since then, all my teammates began to call me jumbo".

According to media reports, Anil Kumble resigned from his post due to differences with captain Virat Kohli in the month of June in the year 2017. Because of these differences Kumble had to resign from the post of chief coach. Then he said, "I was told that the captain had trouble with my working style".

Kumble is the highest wicket-taker in Test matches on the Indian side. Kumble took 619 wickets at an average of 29.65 by throwing 40,850 balls in 132 Test matches played in the test between 1990 and 2008. He is the first bowler to take 500 and 600 wickets in Test matches on the Indian side. India's only bowler is Anil, who has 500 and 600 wickets in Test matches. He is only the second bowler after taking England's gym to take 10 wickets in a Test innings in Test cricket history.
