New Delhi: The Har Ghar Jal scheme has successfully delivered over 15 crore water connections across India, as announced by Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil on Thursday.

During the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, Patil emphasized that the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of providing safe drinking water to every citizen.

"Under the Har Ghar Jal scheme, 15 crore connections have been provided so far," Patil stated.

The central government is leading the Har Ghar Jal scheme in partnership with state governments to guarantee tap water supply to all rural households in the country.

Government statistics reveal that when the Jal Jeevan Mission was announced in August 2019, only 3.23 crore (17 percent) rural households had tap water connections. Since then, the scheme has extended tap water access to numerous additional rural homes.

The Har Ghar Jal scheme is part of the broader Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to enhance water accessibility and quality across rural areas. The initiative not only focuses on providing tap water connections but also emphasizes improving the infrastructure for water distribution and maintenance. This comprehensive approach helps ensure the sustainability of water supply systems, addressing both immediate needs and long-term goals for rural communities. The scheme’s progress highlights the government's commitment to addressing critical water scarcity issues and improving the quality of life for millions of rural residents.
