Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday (February 8, 2022) refused to quash an FIR lodged in connection with a video that went viral on social media. An anonymous Maulana allegedly made a hateful and indecent statement against Hindus in this video. Maulana had said in his statement that 'Hazrat Adam is the father of Hindus'.

A bench of Justices Ashwini Kumar Mishra and Ajay Tyagi dismissed the claim of the petitioners that the allegations against them were bogus and no such video was ever released. The court said that whether such viral videos contain any objectionable material or not, it needs to be investigated by the agencies, as prima facie it comes under the category of offence. An FIR was lodged by a person named Mahesh Pandey in the case.

Based on his complaint, a case was immediately registered against several people including the petitioner Shakeel Khan. Pandey had alleged that while running Facebook on October 23, 2021, he caught sight of a video. In this, provocative and derogatory statements were made by a Maulana against the people of the Hindu community. According to Pandey, in the said viral video, Maulana had said that 'Hazrat Adam is the father of Hindus'. Pandey had alleged that such comments were hurting the sentiments of him and other Hindus.
