Bangalore: Elections are to be held on June 19 for four Rajya Sabha seats in Karnataka, due to which the political enthusiasts have increased. Former PM HD Deve Gowda will file nomination on behalf of Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) on Tuesday. At the same time, Deve Gowda will need the support of Congress MLAs to win the election. In such a situation, Deve Gowda's son and former Chief Minister Kumaraswamy tweeted that the interim president of Congress Sonia Gandhi wants Deve Gowda to be elected a Rajya Sabha member.

Kumaraswamy tweeted that HD Deve Gowda has decided to contest the Rajya Sabha elections at the request of JDS MLAs and Congress President Sonia Gandhi. For this, on Tuesday, Deve Gowda will file nomination papers. Kumaraswamy has thanked the Congress for its support. However, the Congress has declared senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections. Let us know that out of the four Rajya Sabha seats in Karnataka, two BJP seats are fixed and the Congress victory in one seat is determined according to the data of the current MLAs. In such a situation, it has been decided to field HD Deve Gowda from the JDS for the fourth seat. JDS currently has 34 MLAs. In such a situation, HD Deve Gowda will need 10 votes to win.

Karnataka Congress unit president Shivkumar has made it clear that the party has decided to field a single candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat and Mallikarjun Kharge is the party's Rajya Sabha candidate. On the question of Deve Gowda's support, Shivkumar Congress is a secular party.
