Tamil Nadu: Very heavy rain likely at isolated places in Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain and thundershower activities at isolated places in Erode, Coimbatore, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore and Salem districts of Tamil Nadu. Moderate rain and thundershowers are very likely at isolated places over Delta districts, Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal region. The department said that light to moderate rain and thundershowers may occur at a few places over rest of Tamil Nadu.

The fresh cases of Kovid-19 rose marginally to 1,568 on Friday, compared to 1,562 on Thursday and 1,509 on Wednesday. Fifteen districts, including Coimbatore, Namakkal, Cuddalore and Villupuram, have reported a surge in new cases in the last 24 hours. Coimbatore had the highest number of new cases at 200 in the last 24 hours. 239 cases were registered in Western district, 62 in Namakkal, 55 in Cuddalore. However, less than 25 cases have been reported in each of the 22 districts of the state and these include Dindigul (9), Theni (9), Tirupathur (7), Perambalur (6), Tenkasi (4), Ramanathapuram (3) and Virudhunagar (3). ) reported cases in single digits.

Meanwhile, the death toll rose to 34,980 among the 19 deaths reported on Friday and the state reported a cumulative case tally of 26.19 lakh. At the end of the day, after 1,657 patients were discharged, 16,370 people were still undergoing treatment for the viral infection. Of the 19 deaths, four were reported in Tiruvallur, three in Coimbatore, two in Tiruvannamalai, one each in 10 districts. The state vaccinated 5.5 lakh people on Friday, taking the number of doses in state centers to 3.2 crore. Meanwhile, 21.71 lakh people have been vaccinated in private hospitals since May 1.
