Dehradun: The marriage of Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Pauri Municipality President Yashpal Benam's daughter was to be held with a Muslim man on May 28, which has been cancelled. Yashpal Benam said that for the happiness of the daughter, he had agreed to marry a Muslim man, but considering the reaction on social media and at the local level, the marriage has been called off for the time being.

Yashpal Benam said, “Looking at the kind of atmosphere that has been created, both the families have decided sitting together that as public representatives, it does not suit them to get married under the shadow of the police. Both the families have decided that the upcoming marriage ceremonies on 26, 27 and 28 will not be held." At the same time, Monis's father Raees has not given any reason for the cancellation of the wedding ceremony to be held on May 28.

Let us tell you that the wedding card of Yashpal Benam's daughter Monica and UP's Amethi resident Mohammad Monis went viral on social media. Thereafter, Hindu organizations VHP, Bajrang Dal protested against this marriage in Kotdwar, Pauri on Friday. They also burnt the effigy of Benam. Describing such marriage as wrong, Vishwa Hindu Parishad's Pauri's working district president Deepak Gaur said, "Benam's daughter should either accept Islam or his future son-in-law should adopt Sanatan Dharma."
