New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi on Saturday announced that August 14 will be celebrated as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' to commemorate the struggles and sacrifices of individuals. BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda has welcomed prime minister Modi's decision and expressed his gratitude. At the same time, he has suggested learning from history about not repeating the mistake of partition.

"Heartiest thanks to the respected PM Shri Narendra Modi ji for taking a historic decision to celebrate 14th August as "Partition Horrors Remembrance Day" in memory of the struggle and sacrifice of the people affected by the sting of partition. The situation arising out of partition gave an opportunity to dominate the politics of appeasement and negative forces. We must learn from history and ensure that this error is never repeated because those who do not learn from history are forced to suffer again and again.'?

Earlier, the PM said that the pain of partition can never be forgotten. Millions of people were displaced and many lost their lives due to hatred and ignorance caused by partition. The PM said that Bifurcation Horror Memorial Day, "Reminds us of the need to remove the poison of social division, animosity and further strengthen the spirit of unity, social harmony, and human empowerment. Pakistan was carved out as a Muslim country after the partition of India by British colonial rule in 1947."
