History lesson by Indian athlete 'Deepa Malik'

A mother of 2, a wife of an army men and a wheelchair bound adrenaline junkie can still afford to make history in the fields of athletics. From Gurgaon(Haryana), scripted her name in the hall fame by winning and being the first Indian women athlete to win a Paralympics Medal. She was able to bag a silver medal at the Rio Paralympics after she threw a shot put 4.61m away from her stand.

This made Indian’s Paralympics medal tally to show 3 medal, I gold, 1 bronze and now a silver.

"I want to use this medal to support women with disabilities in India. This journey has been wonderful for me and my entire family. I am proud to be the oldest athlete in the team and win a medal," Deepa was quoted by news agency IANS as saying immediately after she won the medal.

Deepa is a vocal spokesperson for paraplegic rights in the country with her Ability Beyond Disability movement.
