New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stone for the Amrit Vatika in the Capital city on Tuesday evening, which will be built next to the India Gate as a memorial lawn to commemorate 75 years of Independence and honor the valor of unsung freedom fighters. This significant event will also mark the culmination of the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign at Kartavya Path, with representatives from all 766 districts in attendance.

The Amrit Vatika will occupy an area of 12,000 sqm and is expected to be ready for visitors within the next six months. It will be located adjacent to the Netaji Bose statue under the Grand Canopy and the National War Memorial.

This ambitious project aims to plant 75 saplings of indigenous species, creating a 'living testament' to India's shared heritage. Soil and saplings have been collected from every corner of India, with youth, volunteers, and citizens contributing soil from their villages, which was then transported to the block and urban bodies.

The Mera Yuva Bharat initiative, set to launch on the same day, focuses on "youth-led development and providing equitable access to youth." It seeks to engage the country's 40 crore youth population in nation-building.

To facilitate the event, the government has organized the arrival of over 20,000 Amrit Kalash Yatris from the states and Union Territories to the national capital via special trains and buses. These Yatris will be accompanied by their respective Members of Parliament (MPs) for the two-day carnival at Kartavya Path. They will unite to place soil from their regions into one giant Amrit Kalash at the venue.

The Meri Maati Mera Desh campaign, launched in September, saw the construction and installation of a memorial plaque at every village or panchayat in India to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives during the freedom struggle and defense personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. Over 2.33 lakh Shilaphalakams (plaques) have been erected across the country as part of this initiative.

A memorial wall dedicated to the heroes who have contributed to India’s freedom, unity, and integrity will also be established within the Amrit Vatika. In addition to the Prime Minister, the program is expected to be attended by several Union ministers, officials, diplomats, and the families of these brave individuals.
