New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has prioritized women's empowerment in its budget allocations, focusing on various schemes aimed at enhancing their well-being and independence. Over the years, several initiatives have been introduced to support women across different sectors, from healthcare to entrepreneurship.
One such scheme is the PM Surakshit Matritiva Abhiyan, which provides free check-ups and healthcare services to pregnant women and mothers for up to six months post-delivery, benefiting over 4 crore individuals to date. Additionally, the PM Matru Vandana Yojana offers financial assistance to pregnant women and provides incentives for the birth of girl children.
The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana encourages savings for the future of girl children, with over 3 crore accounts opened nationwide. Another initiative, the Vigyan Jyoti Yojana, aims to promote women's participation in science and technology by targeting school girls in classes 9-12.
Under the PM Ujjwala Yojana, more than 10 crore LPG connections have been provided to women in households, reducing health risks associated with the use of unclean fuels. Measures for women's safety include the establishment of One Stop Centres and Women Helplines, offering integrated services such as legal aid and counseling.
Other schemes like Swadhar Greh, Working Women Hostels, and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao have been instrumental in supporting women facing difficult circumstances and promoting girl-child education. The Mahila Shakti Kendra fosters rural women's empowerment through community participation.
Financial inclusion is addressed through initiatives like the PM Jan Dhan Yojana, with over 55% of accounts held by women, and the PM Mudra Yojana, which has disbursed millions of loans to women entrepreneurs.
Infrastructure development schemes like the Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission have improved access to clean water and sanitation facilities, benefiting women and families. The PM Awas Yojana aims to provide safe housing, with nearly 70% of households under the scheme jointly held by women.
The POSHAN Abhiyaan focuses on the health of pregnant women, lactating mothers, and adolescent girls, utilizing technology like the POSHAN Tracker app for real-time monitoring. These initiatives collectively reflect the government's commitment to women's empowerment and well-being.
