Today there has been a rapid increase in human right cases in the country. Many women are victims but so are men and the elderly. There is an immediate and dire need for activists who can help protect the rights of all and also spread awareness about the violation of human rights happening everyday in our country. Kundan Srivastava is one such human rights activist who has taken a stand and is doing all he can to help uphold the dignity and humanity of women, men, children and the elderly.

He narrates an event which took place in his college years where he was kidnapped and kept hostage for almost 7 days for protesting against the bureaucracy and mafia who were sabotaging the education system. He eventually managed to escape but got a gun shot in one leg while trying to escape. This is where he developed a strong resolve for working for the good of humanity and the downtrodden. Kundan completed his engineering soon after but tragedy struck when he lost his younger brother to cancer. Then he tried his best to improve the education system in his village.

While in Delhi, Kundan would regularly and very often hear about the crimes committed against women and then he decided that he wanted to do something for them and he went on to create an NGO ‘Be In Humanity Foundation’. This is a youth run organization which helps women from all sections of society. Srivastava focused not only on saving women from violence and help them in getting justice but also worked towards rehabilitating women. He believed that even after women have undergone the trauma of violence, rape or acid attacks they should be welcomed back into the mainstream with open arms so that they can restart their lives and script a new beginning.

Kundan’s main aim is to help everyone in need wherever and whoever they are. He is not a feminist and also helps men when their human rights are violated. In one case a woman was taped brutally attacking her mother in law and then Kundan took it on himself to get the elderly woman and her family justice from the brutish daughter in law who was fighting a divorce case with her husband. Also in another instance Srivastava also helped a truck driver stuck in Saudi Arabia who was being mistreated and not been given basic facilities. He is not biased against men in any case. His main aim is to help all who need help, protection and support and he does this through spreading awareness through his page on social media and through his NGO.

Kundan has been working for the downtrodden and weak sections of society for many years now. He has recipient of many awards which include Universal Humanity Award 2013, Veer Putra Samman and many more accolades too. He is an inspiration for many youngsters today who want to do good and contribute to humanity. He is genuinely concerned for the victims of violence and the downtrodden and he leaves no stone unturned to see to it that all the victims get justice and are rehabilitated back into the mainstream of society.

Kundan’s story teaches us to never give up hope and to make the world around us our family. His story challenges us to expand our horizons and work for the greater good. Definitely we need many more like him so that we have a happy, equal and healthy society to live and flourish in.
