Mumbai: Three divorce cases have come to light in Thane district of Maharashtra. A Muslim woman has filed a case against her husband at the Mumbra police station for three divorces. The woman has alleged that her husband has divorced her on the phone and WhatsApp. Police have registered a case under the Muslim Women Act (Protection of Marriage Rights).

This is not the first case of three divorce complaints being filed. Earlier, a case of triple talaq from Uttarakhand came to light. On July 31, a woman in Uttarakhand was divorced by her husband. In this connection, Dehradun's SSP Nivedita Kukreti had said that the case has been registered under the relevant sections and investigation is being carried out. The first FIR was registered in Haryana after three divorce laws were enacted.

Sajida, a resident of Nunah in Mewat district, had lodged a complaint against her husband Salahuddin under the Muslim Women's Protection of Rights and Marriage Act, 2019. The woman was accused of being harassed by her husband and in-laws to the police. Outraged by this, the husband divorced her three on the phone. Three divorces are now a crime in India. The triple talaq bill includes a provision of 3 years imprisonment and fine, making triple talaq illegal.
