"I was hired because an actor failed to show up": Gaurav Dubey

Stand-up comedian and actor Gaurav Dubey still remembers his first stand-up act, which netted him his first payment of $51. This is despite the fact that he has written for numerous comedy shows.

"More than ten years ago, I used to perform small stand-up routines all over Uttar Pradesh while living in my hometown of Prayagraj. But I was aware that there was much more talent in me, so this couldn't be the end. I travelled to Mumbai and, after much effort, was able to secure my first co-writing assignment. Then, in my capacity as a co-writer, I contributed to a number of shows, including Comedy Circus, Comedy Nights Live, and Khatra Khatra Khatra.

Acting happened for Dubey six years ago, and it was completely accidental. When I had to fill in for an actor on the reality series Comedy Classes because he was late, it was pure luck. From that point on, acting became my career. Later, in the movie Sajan Re Phir Jhoot Mat Bolo, I had the opportunity to play some entertaining roles like Deepak Tijori.

The writer, who competed on India's Laughter Champion and made it all the way to the finals, is now concentrating on acting because he thinks it's about time he gave acting his all.

"I have written for performers like Kapil Sharma and Bharti Singh who have been incredibly supportive and adored my acts. They were people I admired when I was younger, and now we share a screen. Since I began acting on The Kapil Sharma Show for the current season, I'm in a euphoric state. The ability to realize my mother's dream feels wonderful, Dubey says in his conclusion.
