ICC President Ashok Malhotra on Monday requested the BCCI to take note of the long-standing demands of the institution and said that the former aged players cannot wait forever.
Malhotra was accused by ICA directors of making public statements without consulting him and talking to the BCCI on important topics related to the players' association. Among the demands that the ICA has placed before the BCCI include pension for ex-cricketers playing less than 25 first-class matches, pension for widows of former cricketers, medical insurance to be increased from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh and money handing is also included.
The ban on Prabhakar for match-fixing was over in 2005. Malhotra said that the time has come when BCCI should take note of their demands. Malhotra says, 'It has been almost 10 months (after Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI took over), but nothing has been done for the former players. The ICA has been formed for the welfare of former cricketers and many of them have turned 70 years old. They can't wait forever. I am urging the BCCI to look into the demands again.
