ICC Test Rankings: Rohit's good performance, Virat out of top-5

New Delhi: The ongoing Test series between India and England has seen a major change in the test ranking of ICC. England captain Joe Root has become the world's number one batsman. Indian captain Virat Kohli has suffered from poor form and has been dropped from the top five. Opener Rohit Sharma has been among the top five batsmen in Test cricket for the first time.

This is the first time in five years that Team India captain Virat Kohli has been dropped from the top five. In fact, Virat Kohli has managed to score just one half-century in five innings played on the tour of England. Virat Kohli has lost 9 points and has now moved to the sixth position with 766 points. Rohit Sharma has been consistently doing well in Test cricket ever since he became an opener. Two years ago, when Rohit Sharma was given a chance to start his innings in Tests, his Test ranking was 53rd. Though he has joined the top five batsmen in the world in two years. Rohit Sharma is fifth with 773 points.

England captain Joe Root has managed to reach the first position in the Test rankings for the first time since 6 years. Earlier this year Joe Root was ranked ninth in the batsmen's rankings. But now Root has surpassed Ken Williamson. Root leads the ICC rankings with 916 points. Williamson is second with 901 points and Smith is third with 891 points. James Anderson has benefited from his excellent performance against India among the bowlers. Anderson has now moved up to number five. Australian pacer Pat Cummins remains at the top, while R Ashwin also retains the second spot.
