Amritsar: The results of the elections to 117 seats of the Punjab Assembly are being released today on Thursday. Since morning, political parties have also started preparations to celebrate. Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Harpal Singh Cheema is making headlines. If the AAP forms a government in Punjab, Cheema can be given the post of deputy CM. He said before the results were released, the AAP was going to form a government in the state and there was no reason to doubt the exit polls.

AAP leader Harpal Singh Cheema is the leader of the opposition in the Punjab assembly and MLA from the Dirba assembly constituency in the Sangrur district. Cheema had joined AAP ahead of the 2017 Punjab assembly elections. He then contested from Dirba assembly constituency in the 2017 Punjab assembly elections. He had entered the electoral fray against renowned Punjabi Kabbadi player Gulzar Singh Moonak. Moonak had contested on a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ticket.

Harpal Singh Cheema had won the seat by defeating Moonak and Congress leader Ajaib Singh Rotlan. He is now contesting from this seat once again. Cheema is a lawyer by profession. A day before the election results, Cheema has accused the Viroli parties of joining hands to prevent the AAP from coming to power in Punjab. He questioned the meeting of Captain Amarinder Singh and CM Charanjit Singh Channi with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
