Earlier, TMC's Nusrat Jahan attended the preparatory meeting on Sunday and talked about beating Congress and BJP workers with bamboo. Nusrat said, 'If someone tries to turn your head before the panchayat elections, they will carry bamboo and glass.' Apart from Nusrat Jahan, Basirhat South Trinamool MLA Saptarshi Bandyopadhyay, Trinamool organizing district president Swaroj Bandyopadhyay, North 24 Parganas district council member Sahnoor Mandal, Youth Trinamool president Shariful Mandal etc. were also present in the preparatory meeting.

After this statement, BJP leader Amit Malveet tweeted, 'TMC MP from Basirhat Usrat Jahan is in a desperate attempt to incite hysteria. He told the people of his constituency to beat BJP and Congress workers with bamboo sticks when they come to seek votes in the panchayat elections!' Amit Malviya said that this politics of violence and intimidation in West Bengal is Mamta Banerjee's permanent legacy. Elections in Bengal, especially local body elections, are a sham.
