London: England captain Joe Root is going through the most spectacular phase of his career. He has scored a brilliant century in the first innings of the Leeds Test. This is his third century in the 5-match Test series against India. He had earlier scored a century in the Trent Bridge and Lord's Tests. Root scored 121 runs in the first innings of the third Test of the series. This is the 23rd century of his career. Joe Root broke several records after scoring a century at Leeds.

1- Root became the first batsman in the world to score three consecutive Test centuries in a single year. This year Root scored 2 centuries in the Test series against Sri Lanka and then completed a hat-trick of centuries against India.
2- This is Root's 8th century against India. He has equaled Steve Smith, Viv Richards, Gary Sobers, and Ricky Ponting in this regard.
3- Root has become the first England batsman to score four centuries in a calendar year against India. Before him, West Indies' Everton Weekes, Clive Lloyd, Shivnarayan Chandrapaul scored four centuries in a calendar year against India. Hashim Amla has also done this for South Africa.
4- Root also smashed former England opener Alastair Cook's record as he scored a century. Joe Root became the highest English captain run-scorer In a calendar year. Alastair Cook scored 1364 runs in 2015, while Root has 1398 runs to his name.
5- Joe Root has become the first batsman to score more than 1,350 runs in Tests thrice in a calendar year.
6- Joe Root became the seventh batsman to score a century in the first, second, and third matches of the Test series against India.
7- Root became the captain of England with the highest number of Test centuries. With 12 centuries, he has equaled Alastair Cook's record.
