NEW DELHI: Independence Day 2023 -Significant security measures have been implemented at the historic Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on India's 77th Independence Day. More than 10,000 police personnel, 1,000 facial recognition cameras, and cutting-edge anti-drone systems have been strategically deployed to ensure a secure environment for the event.

Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Dependra Pathak, emphasized that this year's Independence Day celebrations would be marked by exuberance and vigor, without the constraints of COVID-19 restrictions. To ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the festivities, a robust and substantial police presence has been arranged.

Over 20,000 officials and civilians are slated to partake in the Independence Day festivities. The government has extended invitations to approximately 1,800 special guests, including beneficiaries of the PM-KISAN scheme from various regions across the country, to participate in the ceremony.

The security arrangement involves the deployment of around 1,000 cameras equipped with facial recognition and advanced video analytics. These cameras have been strategically positioned within and around the historic Red Fort, as well as at other critical points, to establish comprehensive security coverage and closely monitor the movements of VVIPs.

Parallelly, comprehensive anti-terror measures have been activated, encompassing the installation of air defense artillery. A network of skilled snipers, elite SWAT commandos, and expert sharpshooters will be strategically stationed to safeguard the Prime Minister and other distinguished VVIP attendees.

As part of a unique precaution, 153 kite catchers will be positioned at strategic locations, equipped with necessary gear to intercept kites. Residents residing in proximity to the Red Fort have been kindly requested to refrain from flying kites until the conclusion of the event.

The center-stage of the Independence Day celebrations will be commanded by Prime Minister Modi, who is scheduled to deliver a poignant address from the iconic Red Fort. The agenda also includes an inspection of a Guard of Honor and the ceremonial unfurling of the National Flag at this historic site.
