The Indian Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a recent agreement between India and Tanzania. This agreement, signed on October 9, 2023, focuses on cooperation in sharing successful digital solutions used on a large scale to transform both countries digitally.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to strengthen collaboration between India and Tanzania by exchanging experiences and digital technologies-based solutions for their digital transformation initiatives.

This agreement will boost cooperation between governments and businesses in the realm of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). The activities outlined in the MoU will be funded through their respective government budgets.

The agreement anticipates improved collaboration between the two countries, creating job opportunities in the IT sector. India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has been actively engaging with various nations and organizations to foster cooperation in the ICT domain. This move aligns with India's initiatives such as Digital India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Make in India, aiming to develop a digitally empowered society and a knowledge-based economy.

India has gained recognition for its successful implementation of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), especially evident in its ability to provide public services even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, several countries have shown interest in learning from India's experiences, leading to agreements like this one with Tanzania.

India Stack Solutions, part of India's DPI, have been developed and implemented on a large scale to ensure access to and delivery of public services. They focus on providing connectivity, promoting digital inclusion, and facilitating access to public services. These solutions are designed on open technologies, encouraging industry and community participation to drive innovation. However, every country faces unique challenges in building DPI, even though the fundamental functions are similar, which highlights the importance of global cooperation.
