New Delhi: Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday defended India's right to buy missile defence systems from Russia, despite the threat of a ban from the US. India has clearly stated that we are completely free to buy military equipment from anywhere. On Monday, during his visit to the US, Foreign Minister Jaishankar said that India is free to buy S-400 missile defence system from Russia.

S. Jaishankar further said, 'We have always said that whatever we buy, it is our sovereign right.' Jaishankar said, 'We do not want any country to tell us what to buy from Russia and whatnot, nor do we want any country to give us an opinion about what to buy from America.

Let us tell you that India agreed last year to buy five S-400 systems for $ 5.2 billion from Russia. Because of Russia's military involvement in Ukraine and Syria and the interference in US elections, the US has made a provision under the 2017 law to ban countries that buy big weapons from Russia.
