New Delhi: Lt. General Harinder Singh, who represented India amidst talks held at the top military level to resolve the border dispute at Pangong Soe Lake in Ladakh, stated in clear terms that China should maintain peace and harmony on the borde. The armies must return to the former position. On behalf of China, Major General Liu Lin, commander of the South Xinjiang Military Area, presented the border view of the Communist Government of China to everyone in the meeting.

Both the commanders made suggestions to resolve the dispute. On giving information, official sources said that this is the first major effort between the two countries to end the deadlock on the border. The talks between the two sides took place in Maldo on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on the Chinese side in eastern Ladakh where the border personal meeting takes place. A spokesperson of the Indian Army stated without mentioning the conversation, "India and China officials will continue to engage with the fixed military and diplomatic channels, given the current situation on the Indo-China border".

Before the Lt. General level talks on both sides on Saturday, 12 rounds of talks have been held between the two forces at the level of local commanders. Talks have also been held at 3 Major General level. However, even before this, after several rounds of meetings, there was no solution, it was decided to negotiate on such a large scale. In diplomatic negotiations between the two countries a day earlier, both sides agreed to end their 'differences' through peaceful negotiations, respecting each other's sensibilities and concerns.
