New Delhi: People will have to maintain a distance of at least six feet under the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Central Government. It also essentially involves the use of sanitizers, including face covers, covering the nose and mouth while coughing or sneezing, and scrubbing with soap for at least 40-60 seconds.

Chandrasekhar Tiwari, the priest of the Maa Vaishnavadham Nav Durga temple, has said, 'The government's job is to issue guidelines, but I am against the sanitizer machine in temples, because alcohol is mixed in it.' The priest of the temple has further said, 'When we cannot enter the dir by drinking liquor, how can we sanitize our hands with alcohol?' He gave an option for people to maintain personal hygiene in public places. They have said, 'Put hand washing machines outside all the temples, keep soap there, we accept it. Anyway, in the temple a person takes a bath from the house and enters the temple.

The Center has said in its instructions that shoes have to be removed and come inside. Also, touching of statues and holy books is not allowed. At the same time, distribution of offerings and sprinkling of holy water is also prohibited. Recorded devotional music and songs are recommended. Calling of choirs or singing groups is prohibited. The guideline states that social distancing will have to be followed during the puja. Instead of using public mats in the temple, devotees should bring their own personal mats, which they can take back with them.
