The Indian athletic team's hopes of winning a medal in the 4x100m relay at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games have suffered a major setback. Tamil Nadu sprinter S. Dhanalakshmi, who made headlines last year by defeating Dutee Chand and Hima Das in the 100 and 200 metres last month, has come into the dope. She has also been caught in the testing conducted by the Athlete Integrity Unit (AIU) of World Athletics. The AIU had submitted out-of-competition samples of Dhanalakshmi outside the country. Anabolic steroids have also been found in her sample. She has been temporarily banned.

Dhanalaksmi, who was part of the 4x400m relay team at the Tokyo Olympics, will also be included in the 100m and 4x400m relay squad for the Commonwealth Games along with Hima Das, Dutee Chand. The Indian team has already left for Yugen for the World Championships, but Dhanalakshmi did not go. It has been said that her visa has not been granted, but the organizers have removed her entry from the championship. At the same time, in this championship, the Kenyan athlete was given entry in the 100 meters 2 hours before the start of the race. She too could not reach Yugen due to a lack of a visa, but her entry was not removed.

AIU catches third Indian athlete:  Reports say her sample was taken amid preparations abroad by Indian athletes. However, after which she was found negative in the testing of NADA in the country. This is the third case in the last few months that an Indian athlete has also been caught doping by the AIU. Javelin thrower Rajinder Singh, and discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur, who finished sixth at the Tokyo Olympics, also tested positive for the AIU.
