New Delhi:: In a significant move, the Indian Army has introduced a new regulation that mandates a common uniform for senior officers holding the rank of Brigadier and above, regardless of their parent cadre and initial appointment. This decision aims to foster a sense of common identity and reinforce the Indian Army's reputation as a fair and equitable organization. The initiative was carefully considered during the recently-concluded Army Commanders Conference, with extensive consultations held with all relevant stakeholders.

Under the new guidelines, the headgear, shoulder rank badges, gorget patches, belt, and shoes of senior officers with flag rank (Brigadier and above) will be standardized and uniform across the board. Notably, flag-rank officers will no longer wear any lanyard as part of their attire.

The primary objective behind this step is to promote a cohesive and unified approach in service matters among senior leadership beyond the boundaries of regiments. Brigadier and above officers are typically those who have previously commanded units and battalions and are often posted at headquarters or establishments where officers from various arms and services collaborate and function together.

By enforcing a standard uniform, the Indian Army aims to cultivate a sense of common identity and unity among all senior-rank officers, epitomizing the true ethos of the organization. It's important to highlight that there will be no change in the uniform worn by Colonels and officers below that rank, as clarified by Army officials.
