New Delhi: The Central Government has ordered one crore doses of covishield vaccine to Serum Institute of India (SII) and 4.5 million doses of covaxin to Bharat Biotech. The makers of both vaccines have reported this effect on Tuesday. PM Modi started the covid-19 vaccination campaign in the country on 16 January 2021.

The company official said that the Serum Institute of India has received orders for one crore doses of covishield from the Government of India. The government had earlier purchased 1.1 crore doses of covishield, a covid-19 vaccine prepared by AstraZeneca-Oxford, from the Serum Institute. A spokesperson of Bharat Biotech has informed that the company has received 45 lakh doses of the vaccine from the Government of India. Bharat Biotech will export its covid-19 vaccine covaxin to Brazil and the United Arab Emirates.

The spokesman said the company could also export its vaccine to the Philippines and other South Asian countries. The government had earlier bought 5.5 million doses of covaxin from Bharat Biotech. The corona vaccination is going on in the country. According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, 66 lakh 11 thousand 561 people have been vaccinated in the country so far. Out of this, 3 lakh 52 thousand 553 people have been vaccinated in the last 24 hours.
