NEW DELHI: A chemical tanker named MV Chem Pluto got hit by a drone off India's west coast. The Indian Navy inspected the ship as it arrived at Mumbai harbour to figure out where the attack came from and how powerful the explosives were. This inspection happened after the initial examination of the ship.

The attack happened a couple of days ago in the Arabian Sea while the MV Chem Pluto was heading towards New Mangalore port. A spokesperson from the Pentagon mentioned that the drone attack came from Iran.

Because of several attacks on ships in the Arabian Sea, the Indian Navy took action. They sent P-8I long-range patrol aircraft for surveillance, along with warships INS Mormugao, INS Kochi, and INS Kolkata to be in the area and prevent more attacks.

This latest drone attack on MV Chem Pluto happened while concerns were rising about Iran-backed Houthi militants targeting commercial ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. This happened amid the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The MV Chem Pluto, which had 21 Indian crew members and one from Vietnam, anchored off Mumbai. The Indian Coast Guard ship ICGS Vikram escorted it on its way to Mumbai.

"After its arrival, the Indian Navy team checked the ship to get an initial idea about the attack. The analysis suggests a drone attack, but more detailed investigations are needed to confirm the type and amount of explosives used," stated a Navy spokesperson.

A joint investigation by different agencies started after the Navy's team finished examining the ship.
