Indian sports ministry asks finance ministry for more financial support

The Tokyo Olympics is about to begin in a short time and the Sports Ministry has run out of money to speed up the preparations for these games. The ministry needs additional money to send players and teams to foreign tournaments. The Sports Ministry has asked the Finance Ministry for additional financial year 2019-20 for the financial year 2019-20. To increase participation of Indian teams in foreign tournaments, 75 crore, 100 crore Games India and 125 crore rupees have been sought for Sai. With this amount, the Ministry has to provide the arrears of workers and their retirement benefits.

According to the media report, 16 hundred crores was earmarked for the Sports Ministry in the General Budget. Of this, 245 crore were for sports associations. With this amount, players and teams have to play foreign tournaments and their preparations are made. Now the ministry has asked for an additional Rs 145 crore in it. Of this, 70 crore rupees have been sought for the 36th National Games to be held in Goa and the remaining 75 crores for playing in foreign tournaments. However, no such instance has been found so far when the team or player has been banned from playing in the tournament due to lack of money. But if the Finance Ministry does not release the additional amount, then in the coming time it can stand. According to the source, the Finance Ministry is considering giving the total amount sought.

Apart from this, an additional 100 crore for Games India has been seeking to prepare the preparations and infrastructure of 15 thousand players selected under this scheme. 60 crore rupees have been sought to pay the arrears of the Seventh Pay Commission for the SAI workers and Rs 50 crore for the outstanding of the retired workers.
