COLOMBO: The Indian boys' football team won the SAFF U-17 Championship on Wednesday at the Racecourse International Stadium, defeating a 10-man Nepal squad 4-0.

Aman, Boby Singh, Korou Singh, skipper Vanlalpeka Guite, and Korou Singh all scored once to help India to a convincing victory. With this victory, India successfully defended its hold on the SAFF U-15 Championship championship.

India was defeated 3-1 by Nepal in the group stage. But in the final, India appeared to be a team determined to seize control of the situation completely right away.

They started the game strong, looking for weaknesses in the Nepali defence, and managed to take the lead in the 18th minute through Boby, who headed it in at the far post following a good move involving Ricky Meetei and Vanlalpeka Guite, the latter of whom sailed a cross in the direction of the eventual goalscorer.

Twelve minutes later, Guite was back in the action, adding another assist to his tally when he sent a through ball to Korou Singh, who needed only to round the goalkeeper and score.

With the second goal, Nepal stepped up its onslaught on the Indian half, but the Indian midfield was able to thwart their efforts. Prashant Laksam, the captain of Nepal, elbowed Danny Laishram in the back in the 39th minute after the two became tangled up in a challenge. The incident resulted in an instant red card from the referee.

India completed the remainder of the first half with the man advantage before continuing play following the change of ends. After earlier contributing two assists, Guite quickly scored his own goal in the 63rd minute when his left-wing cross swerved into the top corner, giving India a three-goal advantage.

Dhan Singh, a second-half replacement for Nepal, did produce a few opportunities for his team in the waning seconds, but India was able to thwart the attempts due to their one-man advantage.

Aman, an Indian replacement who came on in the second half, scored India's fourth goal in stoppage time after being let through behind the Nepal defence. By the time the match was through, India had successfully defended their title, therefore the outcome was clear.
