New Delhi: Avinash Sable and Murali Sreeshankar have won the gold medal in the 59th National Interstate Athletics Championships. Steeplechase runner Avinash Sable and long jump player Murali Sreeshankar have cemented preparations for the World Championship with this victory. During the men's 4x400m relay finals, the situation became ridiculous when Muhammad Anas, who was representing AFI-A, mistakenly took the baton from the player of the AFI-B team.
Alex Anthony, who was included in Anas's team, was ruled out after a 200-meter run due to a muscle injury during the third leg. Anas started running with a baton from Sajin, a member of the AFI-B team. The AFI-A team's Amoz Jacob, Noah Tamm, Antony, and Anas had participated in 4x100 meter relay to improve their time.
This team is 16th and last in the qualification of the World Championships to be held in Doha from 28 September to 6 October. Sreeshankar jumped 7.83 meters in his second attempt. The 20-year-old Kerala player, though trying to travel a large distance in his final jump, was frustrated over his over-step attempt to cancel out. His personal best performance is 8.20 meters. He has already qualified for the World Championship.
