New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday sent notices to veteran Congress leader and former Union minister P Chidambaram, his son Karti Chidambaram and others on a petition filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). A bench of Justice Yogesh Khanna on Friday sought a response from P Chidambaram, his son Karti and others in the INX media case and posted the matter for further hearing on April 20.

The ED has sought a direction to quash the special court's order allowing the accused to inspect the documents kept in the Malkhana. Earlier, a bench of Justice Chandradhari Singh of the Delhi High Court had separated himself from hearing the ED's plea in the INX Media money laundering case. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had earlier approached the Delhi High Court challenging an order passed by the Rouse Avenue court allowing the accused persons and their lawyers to inspect the documents. Which was later dismissed by the Delhi High Court.

The CBI had registered a case on May 15, 2017, alleging irregularities in the approval of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to INX Media Group for receiving foreign funding of Rs 305 crore in 2007 during Chidambaram's tenure as union finance minister. Subsequently, the ED had also registered a money laundering case. The economic offences watchdog had registered a PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) case on the basis of an FIR lodged by the CBI and alleged that irregularities had taken place in FIPB clearance to INX Media.
