In the INX Media case, former Union Minister P Chidambaram got conditional bail from the Supreme Court today. Chidambaram was in jail for the last 105 days. He was arrested by the CBI on 21 August in the INX Media corruption case. The Enforcement Directorate arrested him on 16 October. After getting bail in both the CBI and ED cases, now Chidambaram can come out of jail soon.

According to the media report, the Rose Avenue Court of Delhi has issued a bail bond of 2 lakh rupees and such amount as per the directions of the Supreme Court. The order to release P Chidambaram has been sent directly to Tihar Jail. According to sources, the Congress has issued instructions to all its leaders to reach Tihar. It is believed that Congress is calling all the leaders to Tihar to give a message of solidarity during the release of their senior leader.

While delivering the verdict on the case, the Supreme Court said that during this time he will not try to contact any witnesses. Apart from this, he will not be able to travel abroad without permission. Chidambaram will not give any public statements or interviews related to the case. Note that a bench headed by Justice R Banumathi had on November 28 reserved judgment on the appeal filed by Chidambaram, who challenged the Delhi High Court's November 15 verdict. And he was refused bail in the case. During the arguments, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had claimed in the apex court that the 74-year-old former finance minister is maintaining substantial influence over key witnesses in the case even while in custody, to which Chidambaram had said that his career was blamed by baseless allegations and can not destroy the reputation.
