Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan said that his plan to play with an extra bowler was one of the major reasons for their 56-run loss to Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League  2023.

With seven available bowling options, Punjab Kings chose to bowl first. However, they ultimately gave up 257/5 runs. Punjab has a number of pace bowlers but no spinner.

MOHALI: We forfeited too many runs. When he was dismissed, I thought the ball (which didn't come on quickly to the bat) went straight to the fielder. I thought my decision to play with an extra bowler went awry. Today we didn't get a spinner. I'm still learning from it. We couldn't send him (SRK) ahead because Livi Livingstone and even Sam Curran were around, according to Shikhar Dhawan, who spoke after the game.

Punjab gave a solid chase and scored at a respectable rate, but they ultimately folded for 201 due to the pressure of needing to go at roughly 13 runs per over after playing catch-up for the whole of their innings.

Sikandar Raza's (23 off 14) and Liam Livingstone's (36 off 22) explosive English performances weren't enough to offer the hosts a realistic chance at the aim. Despite Atharava Taide's impressive 66 off 36 balls, his first fifty-plus score in the IPL, the Punjab club was unable to cross the finish line thanks to his late lunge for the goal.

Shahrukh Khan's final wicket was taken by Yash Thakur as PBKS were bowled out in the game's 20th over. At 201 in 19.5 overs, the PBKS innings eventually came to an end.

On Sunday at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings will square off.
