Today, Human rights activist Irom Sharmila launched the new regional party, named as ‘Peoples Resurgence and Justice Alliance’ in Imphal as well as the activist will participate in the Manipur assembly elections, which are due in 2017.
Activist Sharmila, while announcing the party, said, “We hope to bring about a political change in Manipur where severe laws like AFSPA will not trouble the common man”.
“To end fast is not the end of my movement. There will be a new beginning,” activist further added.
Repeatedly, the human rights activist expressed her interest to become the chief minister of the state so that she could fight for repeal of AFSPA.
