Popular actor of Indian cinema having the worldwide fan following Rajinikanth on Tuesday announced he would be taking a final call on entering politics on December 31.Speaking at a fans' meet, Rajinikanth said: "I am not new to politics. I got delayed. Entering is equal to victory. I will announce a decision on December 31."There have been wide expecting in Tamil Nadu that the superstar would take a plunge into politics very soon.Rajinikanth's wife Latha had also said it was her husband's decision and would accept and respect whatever decision he took.Companion actor Kamal Haasan has also indicated he was willing to work with Rajinikanth if the superstar ever decided to enter politics.

Critics, such as Cho Ramaswamy, have commented that Rajinikanth has the potential to be successful in Indian politics due to his popularity and fan base alone. In 1995, Rajinikanth started load-bearing the Indian National Congress after meeting Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao. An opinion poll conducted by the magazine Kumudam predicted that Congress, with Rajinikanth's support, might win up to 130 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. In 1996, when the Congress Party decided to align with All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) for the assembly election in Tamil Nadu, Rajinikanth changed loyalties and supported the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) alliance.
