Former English Premier League team Leicester City striker Ian Hume says the Indian Super League (ISL) is helping youngsters to pursue a career in football. Hume, who won the ISL title with ATK FC in 2016, believes it is a long jump for players in the country over a decade ago, and monetary flow in India's major leagues is going to benefit global football even further.
According to the reports, after appearing live on Facebook, Hume told Sportsperson, "Europe's top leagues are only money-rich, but that's only because these are the best leagues in the world. If they were not good leagues, nobody invested. " As for this, he further said, "The same thing is for ISL. To make a career in football, you have to wait a lot for the opportunities that come. If you give a big contract then you have to move even further. I have seen this especially in India. It can be given a lot of young Indian players a chance to make a career. "
Hume said, "Indian players never had that opportunity. Even in the first or second ISL, the players were just finishing the ISL or they are going to work as office or job " Now, they are getting the opportunity to play football for six to eight months in a season. Instead of going to the office, they can now coach in the academy, there is an opportunity for them." Kerala Blasters, ATK, and FC Pune City have played and scored 28 goals in 69 ISL matches. 36-year-old Hume also said that ISL is progressing both economically and structurally which is good for Indian football.
