Israel: In a bid to prevent more cases of the Omicron strain of Coronavirus from entering the country, Israel has decided to extend its tight travel restrictions, including its entry ban on all foreign people, for another ten days. The limits on travellers arriving at Israel's Ben-Gurion International Airport will last until at least December 22, according to a statement made by Israel's Prime Minister, Neftali Bennett, and Health Minister, Nitzan Horowitz, on Thursday night.

All Israelis returning from abroad are required to self-quarantine until they receive confirmation of a negative Coronavirus PCR test result, while those arriving from high-risk countries must isolate at a state-run quarantine hotel until they receive a negative PCR test result.

Additional vaccine limits and incentives may be enforced in the coming days, according to the announcement. At least 21 cases of the highly modified Omicron Coronavirus strain, which was first discovered in Southern Africa, have been identified in Israel. Since the commencement of the epidemic, Israel, a country with a population of 9.3 million people, has reported 8,210 deaths due to the Coronavirus.

The majority of Israel's population, i.e to say over 6.3 million people, has received at least one dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, with over 4 million receiving a booster.
