Jerusalem: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu left a rally midway on Wednesday evening after the sound of sirens fired from Gaza. Netanyahu was campaigning for the party's primary to be held the next day. This is the second time in recent months that after hearing the sound of rockets, the Israeli PM had to leave a program midway.

The Israeli army said in a statement that the missile was fired from the Gaza Strip towards the Israeli territory, which was intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system. It states that after firing the missile, sirens began to ring near the Palestine enclave and in the southern city of Ashkelon. PM Benjamin Netanyahu was rallying in Ashkelon itself. Israeli government broadcaster KAN11 released photos showing security guards informing Netanyahu of a red alert.

Earlier, on 10 September, the Chief of the Likud Party had to leave an election rally in the southern city of Ashdod as sirens sounded warning of an attack from the Gaza Strip. Israel's military said two rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israel last week. In response, two Israeli fighter jets dropped bombs on Hamas installations.
