New Delhi: It is necessary to understand the difference between the fact checker and those who spread disharmony in the society in its name. This was stated by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur in Parliament on Thursday. In fact, responding to a question by RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha, Thakur said, "It is necessary to understand who is the fact-checker and who tries to spread disharmony in the society.''
Thakur further said that if a complaint is filed against him, then the law will work on its own. In fact, Manoj Jha, while talking about the arrest of Mohammad Zubair, had asked what is the procedure to deal with the people spreading hatred in society. Mohammad Zubair, the co-founder of the controversial website AltNews, was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Wednesday. He was granted interim bail by the top court while granting relief in the six FIRs lodged in UP. Zubair then came out of jail last evening.
Manoj Jha had said, "I would like to say that no action is taken against those whose speeches lead to disharmony in the society. But, action is taken against the fact checkers, as we have seen in the past. On this, Anurag Thakur said that a decision is taken by the Press Council of India if a complaint is lodged against newspapers.'' Apart from this, the Content circulated in the electronic media is dealt with by the Ministry of Electronic Media and IT. Thakur further said that action has been taken under the law against those spreading disharmony in the name of fact checks in society. The Ministry has no role to play in this.
