Jammu: Due to the rains that have been taking place in Jammu and Kashmir for the last 24 hours, river-streams in the low-lying areas are in spate. Two people crossing the drain in Reasi were hit by the flow. In which an 70-year- elderly man has lost his life, while another youth has not been found yet. On the other hand, on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, on Thursday and Friday, traffic was being disrupted due to the falling of ribs at a dozen places, which have been restored on Saturday. About 3000 vehicles were stuck on the highway. In the central Reasi, all 12 of its gates have been opened at two and a half on Friday afternoon due to the rise in water level in the Salal Dam on the Chenab river. People have been suggested not to go along the Chenab river. The Meteorological Department issued a warning of floods and landslides in Kargil and Chenab Valley of Jammu division on Saturday.

On Friday, while crossing the water stream in Bathoi in Reasi, an elderly man named Hablu succumbed to the current flow due to which he lost his life. It is said that a 70-year-old Hablu resident Bathoi, was crossing the drain to go somewhere that his foot slipped and he was swept away. His body has been recovered. On the other hand, a young man Mohan Singh was swept away in Ans Nalla, about which nothing came out till late evening. All the 12 gates of Salal Dam were opened at around 2.30 pm on Friday morning to noon and after continuous rain from Friday morning. While it was to be opened on Saturday. The water of the river reaches Akhnoor-Pargwal area through many rural areas.

Traffic disrupted on roads due to rain and landslides in Jammu division on Thursday and Friday will be restored on Saturday. The Ministry has got the data of only 3 districts of Jammu division. According to Superintendent Engineer Ravindra Manocha, due to rain and landslides in Samba, Kathua and Jammu, the damage is fast. Landslides have damaged the roads in Pirkho in Jammu district. 3 roads were closed in Samba district but it has been restored.
