Jammu: Tehreek-e-Hurriyat President Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai died on Wednesday due to severe breathing difficulties. Officials said Sehrai was transferred from Udhampur jail to a hospital GMC in Jammu yesterday due to ill health.

According to the report, he was having difficulty breathing earlier and died this afternoon. Ashraf Sehrai was arrested in July 2020 last year under the Public Security Act. He was arrested from his residence and lodged in Udhampur jail. Sehrai is a Kashmiri separatist leader and president of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.

He was also elected chairman through the first election in the history of the Hurriyat. He was made a helper to Syed Ali Shah Gilani in 1959. In 1965, Sehrai was jailed for the first time for anti-government activities. It was there that he became a Hizbul terrorist. Who was killed in an encounter in Srinagar last year.
