In 2023, Indian athletes are looking forward to a jam-packed season, featuring 23 major domestic competitions scattered throughout the year, alongside prestigious international meets such as the Asian Games and the World Athletics Championships.

The excitement commences with the National Cross-Country Championships in Assam on January 7. Soon after, track and field athletes will be in action with the second edition of the Open Throws and Jumps Competition in March.

Mark your calendars for the four thrilling legs of the Indian Grand Prix taking place between March and April 2023. The first two will thrill spectators in Thiruvananthapuram, while Bengaluru hosts the next two. Additionally, a fifth leg of the competition will be staged in September, following the World Athletics Championships.

Don't miss the Indian Open 400m, happening on March 5 in Thiruvananthapuram.

June and July will be a feast of athletics excellence with the Federation Cup and the Inter-State Senior Championships, two premier events for elite Indian athletes.

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) will continue its tradition of celebrating August 7 as National Javelin Day, commemorating Neeraj Chopra’s historic gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Javelin throw competitions will be held in all states on that special day.

Jamshedpur will host the thrilling National Open Athletics Championships in October, followed by zonal events (North, South, East, West) in the same month.

As for major international meets, Indians will make their mark at the World Race Walking Team Championships in Muscat (March 4 and 5), followed by the crucial Asian Championships in Pattaya, Thailand (July 12 to 16), where the winners secure direct qualification for the World Championships in Budapest (August 19 to 27).

The juniors will also have their time to shine, with the postponed Asian Junior Athletics Championships taking place in Yecheon, South Korea, from June 4 to 7. And later in August, they'll take the stage at the World U20 championships in Lima, Peru, from August 20 to 25.

The grand finale of the Indian athletics calendar will be the junior nationals on November 4 in Chennai. It's going to be an exhilarating year for Indian athletics!
