NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi showered praise on the remarkable Indian compound women's team for their outstanding achievement in clinching the gold medal at the World Archery Championships held in Berlin. The Indian contingent, led by Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami, and Parneet Kaur, scripted history by securing India's first-ever gold medal in any category at the archery world championships.

Expressing his admiration for the team's exceptional performance, the Prime Minister expressed, "It is a moment of immense pride for India as our extraordinary compound Women's Team brings home the country's first-ever gold medal in the World Archery Championship held in Berlin. Heartfelt congratulations to our champions! Their unwavering dedication and hard work have resulted in this outstanding triumph."

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also extended his congratulations to the Indian contingent for creating history. On Twitter, the Congress President wrote, "Our women's team has etched its name in the annals of World Archery Championships! Many congratulations to the formidable trio of V. Jyothi Surekha, Aditi Swami, and Parneet Kaur, who clinched the first-ever gold for India in Berlin. The nation takes great pride in your accomplishment, and we wish you a brilliant future ahead!"

The Indian women's compound team secured the gold medal with a convincing 235-229 victory over the Mexico contingent of Dafne Quintero, Ana Sofa Hernandez Jeon, and Andrea Becerra. Prior to the finals, the Indian team had defeated Colombia 220-216 in the semi-finals and Chinese Taipei 228-226 in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

This historic win marks India's first gold medal in the World Archery Championships since its debut in 1981. Despite four losses in the recurve section and five in the non-Olympic compound discipline in the World Archery Championships finals, this triumph stands as a momentous achievement for Indian archery.
