J&K Police arrest active terrorist, seized arms and ammunition

Officials claimed on Thursday that Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces apprehended an active terrorist of the proscribed terror group Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and seized incriminating documents from his possession, including guns and ammunition.

On specific information of terrorist movement, police, the army's 50 RR, and the CRPF began a joint cordon and search operation in the Androosa Khrew region of Awantipora in South Kashmir, according to police. "During the search operation, joint forces observed some suspicious movement in the orchard area where a suspected person was trying to escape but was tactfully apprehended by the joint parties," police said.

Shahid Ahmed Khanday, a Mandakpal, Khrew resident, has been identified. Incriminating material, including guns and ammo, was discovered during his personal search, according to police. "As per police records, he was an active terrorist and affiliated with proscribed terror outfit HM," police said. Police have registered a case and further investigation has been initiated.
