Patna: Sharjeel Imam, a student of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), has been arrested by Delhi Police Crime Branch from Jehanabad in Bihar for making inflammatory speeches. Cases have been registered against Sharjeel in 6 states. The police also raided his ancestral home in Jehanabad district of Bihar, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Manipur for his arrest.

Meanwhile, the incident of sloganeering in support of Sharjeel has come to light in JNU. Not only JNU, students in Jamia also took out a march in favor of Sharjeel. Students on the streets have attacked the government, calling Sharjeel a victim. JNU student Sharjeel is accused of speaking anti-nationals. A case has been registered against him for treason. A march started at JNU around 9 pm on Monday (27 January).

The march started from Ganga Dhaba to Sabarmati Dhaba and then to Chandrabhaga. During the march, the protesters shouted slogans saying, 'Sharjeel Imam Zindabad. Sharajeel you fight, we are with you.' In support of Imam, several students took out a march carrying poster-banners in their hands. Slogans were raised against the NRC, CAA and the central government in this march. A disputed video in March taken out in support of the Imam is also going viral, showing JNU counselor Afreen Fatima.
