JNU student Sharjeel Imam plea in Delhi high court against lower court

New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Sharjeel Imam, surrounded by allegations of inflammatory speech and spreading violence, has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against the decision of the lower court. Sharjeel has challenged the decision of the lower court, which has been given another three months to investigate the case and file the charge sheet. Sharjeel has demanded a default bail.

Recently, a major action has been taken against Sharjeel Imam under the Unlawful Activity (Prevention) Act (UAPA). In fact, the video of the anti-country speech of Sharjeel Imam went viral on social media, after which he was arrested. The Sharjeel Imam was arrested from Jehanabad in Bihar during the ongoing protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. A sedition case has been filed against Sharjeel Imam in 5 states.

On December 13 last year, Sharjeel gave an inflammatory speech, the video of which became fiercely viral on social media. In this regard, the police had registered a case against Sharjeel under sections 124A (sedition) and 153A (spreading hatred among people on the basis of religion, language, race, etc.) of the Indian Penalty (IPC).
