The U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has made her debut on TikTok, aiming to connect with younger voters after gaining widespread attention on social media. Her first TikTok video, posted on Thursday, features the caption: "Thought it was about time to join!"

In the 8-second clip, Harris acknowledges her recent visibility on the platform, saying, "Well, I’ve heard that recently I’ve been on the For You Page, so I thought I’d get on here myself."

In addition to her TikTok debut, Harris launched her presidential campaign on Thursday with a YouTube video set to Beyoncé’s empowering anthem "Freedom." The campaign video, which marks her official entry into the 2024 presidential race, is accompanied by the message: "I’m Kamala Harris and I’m running for president of the United States."

Harris’ social media activity follows a viral moment from her previous quote about coconut trees, which gained traction after President Biden's recent endorsement of her candidacy following his withdrawal from the 2024 election. Her campaign has also embraced a Gen Z aesthetic on her X (formerly Twitter) page, inspired by Charli xcx’s “Brat” color scheme.

CNN's Jake Tapper commented on the new look, noting its alignment with Gen Z trends, while Jamie Gangel of "The Lead" explained the significance of the “Brat” aesthetic, drawing from notes provided by a younger producer.

On the same day, Harris addressed the Gaza conflict following her meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which she had missed the previous day. She described the situation in Gaza as "devastating" and emphasized the importance of not ignoring the suffering of displaced people. "We cannot look away in the face of these tragedies," Harris stated. "Thanks to President Biden’s leadership, there is a deal on the table for a cease-fire and a hostage deal."
